EL PASO, TEXAS -- The arrival of a large contingent of federal law enforcement officers to the Juarez International Airport and the formation of a heavily armed convoy is fueling rumors that drug kingpin Joaquin "Chapo" Guzman may be extradited to the United States through this border region.

Mexican federal officials have not commented on questions from news media on who is being or was transported overnight to Juarez, Mexico.

Guzman is wanted in several jurisdictions in the United States, including by an El Paso federal court in the Western District of Texas.

His lawyers have spoken publicly in recent months about Guzman's possible extradition.

Other big-name Mexican kingpins sought by the U.S. include Vicente Carrillo Fuentes (Juarez drug cartel) and fugitive Rafael Caro Quintero (Guadalajara drug cartel), who was convicted in Mexico in DEA Agent Enrique "Kiki" Camarena's torture-murder.
