Authorities report latest Juarez femicides
Generalized violence continues unabated

JUAREZ - The body of 23-year old Erika Ochoa Carrillo was found July 17 in Juarez, a city that is known around the world for its brutal drug violence and women's deaths.

In a news release, Chihuahua state authorities said she was strangled. Her partially nude and had injury marks on various parts of her body.

The victim was found in the same subdivision (Riberas del Bravo) that reported an attack last month against a 14-year-old girl inside a grocery store.

Authorities do not know yet if the attacks are connected.

In the second latest case, authorities also identified a woman who died July 16 from head injuries as Esperanza Vitela Betancourt, 58.

Her body was found in an abandoned strip shopping center in the city's center.

No one has been arrested in either case.

Armed commando storms police station, kills commander in brazen attack

Juarez - An armed commando brazenly stormed a police station in Juarez and shot to death a commander who was targeted by a drug-trafficking group.

Authorities identified the victim as police Capt. Javier Alarcon. The armed group brandishing AK-47 rifles carried out the assault early Friday inside the station, which is located within the Bermudez Industrial Park.

Alarcon is the latest police officer to be killed in Juarez this year. No one has been arrested in connection with the previous murders aimed at the notorious Juarez police cartel.
