A new breed of "holy warriors" and alarming degrees of brutality in drug-cartel violence threaten to change Mexican society, according to an article in the latest Small Wars Journal.

Robert J. Bunker and John P. Sullivan, co-authors of the article, said frightening examples of brutality include skinning people, beheadings, castrations, cutting off breasts, removing hearts, throwing victims into containers filled with acid, and setting people on fire while they are alive.
